Lifeguards Provide Interventions at Evesham River Festival 2019

On the 13/7/19 South Worcester Patrol & Flood Rescue Team used their skills to provide both water rescue capability and First Aid for the Annual Evesham River Festival.

This historic event every year consistently attracts multiple thousands of people converge along a stretch of the River Avon , with a multitude of events taking place on and around the river.

For the safety team, the planning and execution for this event is a multi-stage process which occurs over two days. On the evening of the 12/7/19 there was a briefing of a safety team followed by preperation of the operational IRB'S and collection of medical kits.

The 13/7/18 was a long but fun-filled day which lasted approximately 18 hours for the safety team. The day started off with providing safety cover for events which were occurring from the river, followed by multiple demonstrations provided by the safety team show-casing the teams rescue capabilities to the general public.

Throughout the day the team dealt with a variety of incidents which included, a First Aid incident which after providing initial care we handed over to the Ambulance Service, a Search & Rescue operation to find two missing persons and dealing with an overcrowded boat, which is listed with individuals on the boat not wearing Lifejackets or PFD'S. We also were on the water providing a demonstration of the skills used by our lifeguards and our Flood Rescue team and providing safety advice where appropriate.

As the event came to a close, the traditional firework display signalled the end of the event for another year.

All involved throughout the three day process thoroughly enjoyed the event. Many thanks goes to Adrian Mayhew, Kieran Russell, Adam Milne, Rob Swoosh, Alex Taylor, James Palser, Ethan Pett, Cathy Richards, Kevin Waldron, Oli Lea, Georgina, Baden & Ellen Forson, Abbi Jones, Chloe Bigg, for volunteering their spare time to be part of the safety team, in order for this wonderful event to happen.
