On the weekend of the 13th - 15th July, SWLLC conducted the annual trip down to Poole and the surrounding areas in order to complete RLSS Survive and Save Beach Awards.
SWLLC were joined by Redditch Lifesaving club for the weekend in Lulworth cove, Dorset and then onto the beach at Sandbanks where both training and assessments were conducted.
SWLLC had numerous younger members partake in this event in order to obtain new skills and experience how dynamic environments such as the Beach, can massively effect the methodology used to undertake a rescue. A whole variety of tasks were completed by all the candidates such as, Beach running, Survival swims, initiative rescues, Tube rescues and theory consisting around the Beach Environment.
This year the club took 11 members who all thoroughly enjoyed their time at Sandbanks, and have all obtained vital skills and knowledge in relation to the Beach Environment. This will ensure that the candidates whom mostly are Rookie Instructors, will be able to pass on this knowledge and experience to younger members resulting in a safer in the Beach Environment for all.
A special mention and thanks goes to Teresa Myatt, Tracy Woodford, Simone Inett and drivers John Clifford, Mike Leach for volunteering their spare time in order for this vital club event for younger members to go ahead.
